Periyar National Park, located in Thekkady, is one of Kerala’s most famous wildlife destinations. The heart of the park is the gorgeous Periyar Lake, where boat safaris offer sightings of elephants, bisons, otters, and sometimes tigers along the water’s edge. The park features lush evergreen forests, shola grasslands, and rolling hills. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary forms part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and connects with Bandipur and Mudumalai forests. This makes it a critical wildlife corridor for elephants, tigers, leopards, and other species migrating between the Western Ghats and Nilgiri hills. The sanctuary is divided into four ranges: Muthanga, Tholpetty, Kurichiat, and Sultan Bathery.

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most popular ranges of Wayanad due to its beautiful forest roads and frequent wildlife sightings.
